Meeting Review Latest
Competition Day
13th February 2010
22 members attended the meeting along with the judge for the day John Sussex RDP.

The chairman, Dave Edwards, welcomed everyone and opened the meeting and the Secretary, Gerald Marriner, gave the various notices.

John Sussex gave a fifteen minute talk on the new competitive class Social Philately which members found very informative and John answered many questions raised by members.

Whilst the competition entries were being judged displays were provided by;

Gerald Marriner – ‘No service – returned to sender’ – a three sheet display.

Gerald is asking members to prepare three sheet displays for an evening competition during the Guernsey weekend. The intention is for the three sheets to be interesting and humorous with a Channel Islands link.

John Aitchison – A miscellany of recent items chiefly with a connection to Herm including a recent find of two copies of the Tranquility meter mark. In addition he showed some Commonwealth reply coupons and two new printings of the £100 and £500 revenue stamps.

Patrick Ager – The hovercraft trials carried out in the Channel Islands – covers and background information.

Keith Raymond – a selection of recent acquisitions or other interesting items including pull out picture postcards, used twice envelopes and illustrated covers.

After the lunch break the competition results were announced.

Sarnia Trophy for Social Philately – John Hirst: Jersey Harbours.

Tom Green Cup for Occupation Postal History– Richard Arthurs: Feldpost.

Society Cup for Stamps – John Aitchison: Herm.

Sussex Cup for Postal History & Markings: Gerald Marriner: Underpaid Mail between Jersey & France.
