Annual General Meeting
at The Royal Philatelic Society London
26th June 2010
21 members attended the meeting on a hot and sunny day.
The chairman, Dave Edwards, welcomed everyone including new member Doug Blythe. He also announced the death of Tony Briggs. Gerald Marriner gave various notices.
John Hirst presented the various shields and certificates to the competition winners which had been judged at the previous meeting.
The new issues for 2010 from Jersey and Guernsey were presented by John Hirst and Robert Porter showed the last three years new issues from Alderney.
Jon Aitchinson then provided a PowerPoint presentation entitled ‘The Former Railways of Guernsey and Herm’.
This covered the Herm Island Grand Quarry Railway, the Herm Steam Crane, the Guernsey Steam and Electric Railway and the 2nd World War German Occupation Railways. Jon illustrated the routes and infrastructure of these railways showing views from postcards, pictures and prints of the railways when in use and then a detailed photographic study of how he has identified evidence of the former routes today. This was a fascinating, entertaining and very informative presentation.
Jon then showed a display of postcards and ephemera illustrating the railways and concluded with buses.
