Meeting Review Previous
Guernsey Weekend
9th-11th April 2010
60th Anniversary
Weekend meeting held at
The Duke of Richmond Hotel, Guernsey
9th – 11th April 2010

Some 58 members and guests attended this special weekend meeting. The President David Gurney, Chairman, Dave Edwards and Secretary Gerald Marriner welcomed everyone during the Friday afternoon opening session and various notices were given. Dawn Gallienne from the Guernsey Post Office was introduced to the meeting.

Following dinner on the Friday evening a three sheet ‘fun’ competition was held. Fifteen members took part and the winner was David Le Maistre with ‘Greve De Lecq’. Alan Moorcroft was second and Shirley Hancock third.

A number of dealers attended a sales session on the Saturday morning which was followed by a very successful auction.

The main presentation of the weekend was provided by Ron Brown and was a superb display of mail and ephemera from and to Civilian Prisoners. The display included items connected with George Fox, Winifred Green, Eugene Le Lievre, Percy Miller, John Nicolle, William Symes, Clifford Queree, Stanley Green and in particular John Ingroville. This was a touching and poignant presentation and enjoyed by all those present.
Throughout the weekend displays were provided by;

Gerry Cogger – Favourite items

Graham Little – Red Cross

Philip Mackey – a selection including Ballon Montés

David Gurney – Sub Offices - Parcel post service

John Jivanandham – Early stitched booklets

Robert Corden – Stamps from the occupation

Tony Peters – A new parcel post cachet

Alan Moorcroft – Feldpost

Ron Osborne – Civilian mail during the occupation

Ray Turley – Usages of occupation stamps

Jon Aitchinson – Sales Tax

Mark Bailey – 19th Century postal history

Phil Kenton – Post 1969 usages of stamps

Richard Flemming – Channel Islands mail via St Malo

John Marsden - shades of the 2 1/2 d Guernsey arms stamp

Bob MacDonald – CI France service, Jersey regionals and Red Cross envelopes.

David Winnie – The rise and fall of Vale sub post office

John Hirst – Society weekend memorabilia

Gerald Marriner – Postage due markings – ‘liable to letter rate’
A presentation was made to John Triggs for his help with the promotion of the second edition of the ‘Ferries’ book, and to the President to mark a special birthday.

A reception was held on the Saturday evening which had been sponsored by Stanley Gibbons, and Philip Dawe joined us for dinner afterwards.
All at the dinner received a gift of a presentation pack of the Alderney 25th Anniversary stamps and a cover with a special cachet for the CISS 60th Anniversary from the Guernsey Post Office.

A ‘goody’ bag donated by Stanley Gibbons was given to everyone as they left after the dinner.

The weather for the weekend was perfect (as on many previous weekends) the hotel was very comfortable and everyone enjoyed this very successful weekend.
