Member’s Weekend at Salisbury 2019

Forty-three members and guests attended this year’s Weekend Meeting held at the Grasmere House Hotel that overlooked the River Nadder and Salisbury Cathedral. Gerald Marriner FRPSL kindly provided the standing display of Jersey Hotel material. The traditional ‘Three Sheets to Tell a Story’  held after dinner of the first evening, unfortunately, only attracted two entries, and after the traditional vote,  Gerald Marriner was declared the winner. On Saturday David Winnie, Chairman, provided a fine display of St Aubin postal history from 1830-2000. This was followed by Ron Brown FRPSL with a display of the material used in the production of his 114-page monograph that was launched at the Member’s Weekend meeting and titled “The German Occupation of the Channel Islands 1940 – 1945. Other members providing displays for the weekend were: Leo Meyr, Olaf Beecken, David Gurney FRPSL, Gerald Marriner FRPSL, Brian Sole FRPSL, David Laurillard and Richard Flemming. It was also good to see two of our newest members, Mike Moody and Alan Whittaker, provide fine displays too.

I am pleased to inform members that we have secured the use of rooms at the Union Jack Club, Sandell Street, London, SE1 8UJ, just a short walk from Waterloo Station. The club is run for all current and ex-service non-commissioned personnel from the three armed forces, and it offers excellent restaurant and bar facilities at reasonable prices too. I will issue details and further instructions regarding meetings in the near future, but the first meeting at the Union Jack Club will be on Saturday, 10th February 2018.
